Then and now: A lot less development 50 years ago
Here’s one extra 1963 photo showing a naked Tahoe Keys and naked Heavenly parking lot.
I’m working on getting permission to use other oldies. Until then, Dec. 30 will the last Then and Now.

These have been great, thank you and I sure hope you get permission to keep these pictures coming!
Thank you for the wonderful series of pictures. I look forward to them every week. Merry Christmas!
I think the Then & Now is the best , so enjoyable, I’am with Mark, I sure hope you get permission to keep it going.
Merry Christmas to Tahoe.
Alot of wildlife in the Truckee Marsh before it was developed. Geese, all kinds of ducks, garter snakes, frogs…and bunch of other critters!
For a short time there was a series of wooden planks that rested on bricks or rocks that served as a walk way to the east end of Pope Beach.
Walking to the bus stop as a kid I’d hear the occasional shotgun blast as someone was takin’ a shot at a goose or duck. Hunting was still legal in the Tahoe Basin at the time.
It’s too bad that wetlands area is gone. The loss of a natural feeding, breeding and nesting ground is never good. Take Care, Old Long Skiis
I love the old photos. Many thanks Bill.
Merry Christmas
I, too, have completely enjoyed these photos. I sure hope you can get the permissions needed to continue the series.
Merry Christmas to all.
Bill,
Thank you so much for these old photos. They bring back so many fond memories. I think they’re alot of people who like getting a dose of “Old Tahoe” once in awhile.
Keep up the good work and have a Merry Christmas. Hope to see you next year with more “Then and Now”. Old Long Skiis
