January not good for Nevada casinos

Lack of snow and the Chinese New Year falling in February contributed to Nevada’s drop in gaming revenue in January.

The numbers were off 12.44 percent compared to a year ago, with $909.2 million collected, according to the state Gaming Control Board on March 8.

Plus, the Super Bowl is now in February, too, which is often a cash cow for the sportbooks.

Stateline casinos were down, but not nearly to the state level. They were off 2.62 percent compared to the prior year. North Lake Tahoe casinos, though, were up by 0.62 percent.
