Children’s bereavement camp needs volunteers

Volunteers are key to the success of Camp Sunrise, a free bereavement camp for children, and are needed for the June 14-16.

Held at Galilee Camp & Conference Center in Glenbrook, Camp Sunrise is founded on the understanding that every child deserves the opportunity to grieve in a safe, supportive and understanding environment. This free camp is funded by Barton Foundation and is a program of Barton Hospice. Designed for children ages 7 through 14, the camp is geared toward children who have experienced the death of a loved one.

The children receive grief education and support from trained counselors and social workers who help them work through bereavement issues. The weekend is designed to leave them with a more positive outlook on their future.

While we were looking for a home in SLT, I read about this and knew, once I was here, I had to be a part of it. What a worthwhile way to give back and help a child who’s suffering. I will be volunteering for Camp Sunrise and, while I am not trained in counseling, I am still needed. As are you!
