Judge recuses himself in Nutting case
Today’s arraignment of El Dorado County Supervisor Ray Nutting was postponed until Thursday.
El Dorado County Superior Court Judge Daniel B. Proud on June 10 recused himself from the case. It is now being turned over to Judge Curt Stracener.
However, it is possible Stracener, too, will recuse himself. Stracener and Nutting have used the same campaign consultant.
Nutting faces perjury and other charges related to obtaining state grants to clear brush from his property.
The criminal grand jury indictment is sealed until at least June 13.

ElDo and Placer Co. hills folk act like they are Appalachia West…. because they can!
All EDC and Placer Co residents should recuse themselves from the Nutting trial after seeing all of the media’s lousy portrayal of negative pictures of Ray which definitely sway people’s feelings about individual’s demeanor. I know Ray to be a very friendly, SMILING, dedicated, and honest public servant, who doesn’t deserve to be pictured as such. Best wishes to Ray in getting the nonsense charges put to rest and behind him.
It will be interesting to note how this Criminal Grand Jury was empaneled. Especially after the Judge SUZ problem.
I thought Superior Court Judges learned a lesson going back to when Judge Tom “I have Freckles” Smith was named Presiding Judge over all Superior Court Judges.
Good old Tom appointed Hal Barker plus a personal friend or two. Was it possible the Superior Court would not go along with Woof Barker?
Judges should not ask politicians to recommend grand jurors. A revised application would have prevented Mark Nielsen’s campaign mgr. from serving.
