SLTFD: Time to work on defensible space

image_pdfimage_print

Now is the time to work on your home’s defensible space.

Please clear all combustible vegetation at least 30 feet from around your house. Install a fire safe roof, and clean the pine needles from the roof and eaves. Trim tree limbs back 10 feet from your chimney and remove any branches hanging over the house.

Stack woodpiles at least 30 feet from buildings and remove any vegetation and combustible material from beneath your deck.

If you have any questions concerning defensible space, call us at (530) 542.6160.

Need a project FD? Visit all of the vacation rentals out in the county. A lot of the rentals I visit have no defensible space.

Bob, I think Sally works for the city fire department so it may not up to her to deal with vacation rentals in the county. However the city and county do have mutual protection agreements, perhaps she could do those in the county a favor and let us know a good way to approach neighbors (be them renters, full time, part time, vacation) who need to take care of their property to prevent fire trespass.
