The annual Relay for Life on the South Shore is Aug. 10 from 11am-11pm.

The event is at Kahle Community Park in Stateline.

Money raised goes to the American Cancer Socity. The ACS gives out gas cards locally and supplies wigs to nearby cancer centers.

The ACS is the largest private donor to cancer research.

I would like to know the amount of $ in cash cards ACS donates(ed) to the Lake Tahoe community, and also which Tahoe organizations they donate wigs to. Most fundraising organizations (in their Charter) mandates they donate a specific percentage of monies raised, to the community where the money was raised. I have really not heard of any money raised in Tahoe by ACS/Relay, , being left in Tahoe for cancer patients.

There is a large percentage of Tahoe residents who are uninsured or under-insured, and I believe that a decent percentage of money raised her, should stay here – and that percentage $-amount, should be publicized.

Why do Cancer patients have to pay 10,00 dollars to participate ? Also never heard of this about gas cards to people having to travel to get help for there cancer, I asked once and they said they do not help here for that, It is not fair to have to pay for Cancer , we did not ask for it, The cancer society should be paying Cancer patients ,not people paying them,,With all the money Cancer society has , there should of been a cure for all by now, it goes on and on and on,money , money , money.

I would like the answer to my question for ACS — WHERE IN TAHOE DO THEY GIVE OUT GAS CARDS? They raise almost a million dollars locally, and our locals do not see any of it as far as I know.

On the other hand, the Cancer League raises money and spends it all locally on cancer patients. Even the Komen Race for the Cure (Reno) MUST leave a percentage of funds raised, for use in the Lake Tahoe Basin. This money can be used for patients, education, etc – in the Lake Tahoe Basin!
