Sierra Foothill wines were judged among some of the best in the California State Fair’s commercial wine competition.

Judges had 2,625 wines to rate.

Tying for best Sangiovese in the state were El Dorado County wineries Boeger Winery and Windwalker Winery.

Crystal Basin Cellars, also in El Dorado County, was rewarded for being the best Syrah.

While Macchia Winery is in Lodi, it used grapes from Amador County to create California’s No. 1 Zinfandel.
