Not meaning to be overly critical of SLTPD but the original reports tended to give the impression that the suspect might be known by both the victim and the Police. Now, three days later, we’re getting supposed descriptions and vague BOLOs and learning that the shooting might be random or, at least, not some sort of beef between acquaintances.

The main reason I’m not being critical is because I suspect that the investigation, as well as the timely release of public information, is being strongly hampered by the cutbacks in police services including public information services, and the PD, which no longer investigates “minor” crimes due to the lack of funding and personnel, especially well trained and competent personnel, is particularly swamped by a few major crimes.

I still remember the days when the South Lake Tahoe Police Department was the premier law enforcement agency in El Dorado County and at Lake Tahoe. It’s amazing how quickly incompetent City government, backed by ignorant hatred of public safety employees, can change the entire environment for folks who want to live, and raise families, at the Lake. Not to mention the visitors who once felt some modicum of safety when they came to Lake Tahoe.

I knew “Preet” for less than “total” ONE Hour. Six or so buys of root beer and smokes, and one time he was jogging by my house. We talked “everytime”. I learned very quickly, a guy with a kind and accepting heart, a guy who could be a true friend to anyone. On Tuesday afternoon, before heading out, we talked for a few moments, and I felt his words… ” it’s ok ” . Hmmm,I was starting to learn from him. – It is three days later, and I am still learning from him.
