Motorist seriously injures cyclist on Hwy. 28
A 23-year-old Colorado man remains in serious condition this afternoon at Renown Medical Center in Reno after being thrown from his bicycle Nov. 15.
California Highway Patrol officers said James Hulett of Boulder was on his bike on Highway 28 going up Dollar Hill just after 5pm Friday when he was struck from behind by a vehicle driven by Vicente Araujo.
The 53-year-old Kings Beach man initially fled the scene. Two and half hours later he turned himself in at the Placer County Sheriff’s Office in Tahoe City. He faces felon hit and run charges.
Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be contributing factors in the accident. But California Highway Patrol officers also don’t know what led Araujo to drift to his right.
No helmet was found at the scene of the accident. Hulett sustained major head trauma, according to officers.

Rest assured that Mr. Araujo has adequate insurance per the law, and he has a valid driver’s license.
Very likely that he legally immigrated to the U.S. too.

Well A.B. let’s analyze the article and see if your inferences are well founded or represent a likely racial bias. Nowhere in this article are we provided information regarding Mr. Araujo’s automobile insurance, whether he holds a valid driver’s license, or is a legal citizen/immigrant. To imply otherwise is premature and does in fact suggest a strong anti-hispanic bias.

Secondly, my sympathy goes out to AB who represents what is really wrong with the world and I can’t help but feel AB should have been the one on the bike. IF we have to lose someone, it should be the racists who fuel the hatred in the world.

I’ve read plenty of comments here that cause me to suspect some people are posting statements in an effort to raise anger by opposition. A B seems to know how to p o Arod, and has done it again. This looks like A B is having some fun with people who take him seriously.
That’s right because no one named Araujo could possibly be here legally. Just because there are approximately 41.8 million legal Hispanics and about 6 million illegal ones in this country. Never let facts get in the way.
First & foremost, what a horrific tragedy.
If we come to learn that Mr. Araujo was here illegally, it will be one more death caused by an illegal immigrant. It will also cause a number of the outspoken politically correct lemmings to eat crow.
…and, Squaw, will the opposite be true…will the crow be eaten in public?
James was a brilliant young man with a bright future. A passion for the outdoors but most importantly a joyful spirit for living, he just graduated from CU Boulder and recently moved to Tahoe to be a big mountain ski coach and figure out his next step in life. Being that this was taken from him I think it might be appropriate to forget about the individual who hit him and think about the situation itself. Who gives a —- what nationality he is, this should be a P.S.A. about how easy it is to overlook a person on a bike. Life is full of learning experiences its a damn shame if people look over them in a poor effort to scrutinize an unrelated issue.

Araujo was arrested on a felony charge of hit and run causing death/injury and was transported to the Placer County Jail in Auburn, said Dena Erwin, public information officer for the sheriff’s office.
Araujo’s bail initially was set at $75,000; he remained in jail as of Thursday on “no bail hold,” Erwin said, in lieu of an investigation by Immigration Customs Enforcement officials regarding Araujo’s status as a legal citizen.

What a shame such a fine young man with a bright future in front of him was killed in this tragic accident. My condolences to his loved ones.
It’s also a shame that so many in our society these days are soulless, sub-human cretins, so filled with bigotry and hate that they are incapable of sympathy.
