No snow: Wheels save sleigh ride business
Publisher’s note: This is one of a series of blurbs about how the lack of winter is impacting businesses in the Lake Tahoe Basin. If you have an idea, please email info@LakeTahoeNews.net.
Sleigh rides through the woods are a Lake Tahoe tradition. So are carriage rides.
Fortunately, the Borges family is flexible with what it offers guests.
For the past 47 years the Borges have offered sleigh rides in the field in Stateline next to MontBleu casino. But snow can be a problem so Plan B had to be instituted.
Dwight Borges told Lake Tahoe News the holiday season was very good for business because the carriages were out. They are stationed in front of Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel in South Lake Tahoe.
He said people love to see the horses.
It’s hard to pass by the carriages and not see someone petting a horse and engaging the driver in a conversation.

You know how if you wash your car its bound to rain. Well maybe everyone needs to get their car washed today to ensure this little storm dumps something. Its the collective energy thing, we have nothing to loose. Also, business can hold July in January sales to clear out stuff. Hummm, how about a hawaiian shirt contest or a climaate change drink special of some kind with appropriately named drinks and food. We all know its a drag having no snow but what can we do but take advantage of what we do have. Good luck…
I think SLT should have a Hawaiian Shirt Contest anyway! How fun would that be? We could install a temporary “runway” at the Village…. offer Hawaiian drink specials… have some Hawaiian music… sell wedding bubble-bottles for blowing bubbles to “Tiny Bubbles”… and I’ll have a rack of Vintage Hawaiian shirts from Brudda Eddie to sell to those who don’t have a shirt. Fun, Fun, Fun. It could even be a fun-raiser for a charity – like the Cancer League or ???
I love to see the horse poop all over the roadway around Stateline and I really love to get stuck in traffic because they are taking up a lane in the most congested part of town!
