No snow: People spending money at Heavenly Village

Publisher’s note: This is one of a series of blurbs about how the lack of winter is impacting businesses in the Lake Tahoe Basin. If you have an idea, please email it to info@LakeTahoeNews.net.

The lack of snow had people spending a significant amount of time in the Heavenly Village during December. And it’s still common to see people milling about.

“I don’t know if it was more people coming up because they didn’t have to deal some of the snow issues we usually have to deal with. People didn’t have to think about getting stuck,” Jana Harrah, owner of Heavenly Village Cinema, told Lake Tahoe News. “I saw people in sports cars. We had a really good holiday, but then we had good movies.”

Gary Casteel, who runs the village, told South Lake Tahoe officials that sales were extremely high in December for the multitude of stores and restaurants.

The city’s parking garage had its highest revenue-generating month ever — $150,000.

Sales tax numbers are not out yet.

It is always great to hear good news — especially when it comes to the SLT economy.

If your up this early, 4:30 A.M, go out and look at the full moon, the first one of the new year. Some indian tribes refered to this as the Full Wolf Moon as the hungry wolfs would surround their camps and howl at the moon.
Also no snow in sight and may get into the 60’s this week. Get out your seed catalogues and start planning your planting.OLS

Hey Old Long Skis : I’m comfortable in bed right now, so I’m not going outside. But, I know what you mean. About four years ago I saw the full moon showing through some clouds while I was at the Heavenly Village. When I pointed it out, people looked up in awe of the beauty. When the clouds are just right, the scene can be marvelous.

Weather that made Tahoe famous. Sunshine, moderate alpine temps, low humidity, great for early afternoon outings at minimum.
