ASPEN -– U.S. Olympic team member Danny Davis (Truckee) earned a gold medal in his first halfpipe snowboarding final at X Games Aspen Sunday, just two weeks before the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.

Davis led a U.S. sweep with Louie Vito (Sandy, Utah) taking silver and fellow Olympic team member Greg Bretz (Mammoth Lakes) bronze.

The strong American showing came without defending Olympic gold medalist Shaun White, who took a break from X Games to focus on Sochi.
