Anderson earns first gold medal for Tahoe

KRASNAYA POLYANA, Russia — Jamie Anderson of Meyers stood atop the podium and lifted her arms in triumph, her long and sometimes draining quest for Olympic glory finally complete.
Anderson gave the United States a gold-medal sweep in the first Olympic slopestyle snowboarding competition on Sunday, while Jenny Jones took bronze to win Britain’s first medal in any snow sport.
Anderson soared to victory in a near flawless run in the women’s final on Sunday, a day after Sage Kotsenburg captured the men’s gold medal. The 23-year-old did it, as is her fashion, when the moment absolutely required it.
Down to one last trip through the treacherous Rosa Khutor Extreme Park course, Anderson took a deep breath, enjoyed a brief moment of “Zen” and showcased the skills that have made her the greatest slopestyle snowboarder of her generation.
Karly Shorr of Truckee finished sixth.
Wow, how proud we all are. The United States along with the Meyers community are so very proud of her.

rock4tahoe, I wholeheartedly agree! A parade for all of our Tahoe Olympians! Maybe finishing with a ceremony and community gathering at one of the schools or at the parks and recreation center. Local officials making speeches, praising the athletes and maybe local businesses getting involved as well.
Any local promoter/events planner want to take this on?
A good way to honor those that competed at Sochi and a good way for the community to come together.

I don’t know Jamie, but I am also very proud of her. I can’t imagine how her family is feeling right now. Wow!!! Way to go Jamie.
Old Long skiis and rock4tahoe, I say lets get it going. We can do it. Why don’t you contact Kae and I will do the same so we can communicate.
I agree with OLS & Rock4Tahoe – a parade and/or reception is in order for Jamie & all our Tahoe Olympians. Jamie is an amazing source of pride – bringing the Gold back to Tahoe in a brand new & difficult sport. Julia Mancuso just won a Bronze and was raised and raced on our Tahoe mountains. I agree OLS – hope it happens! Maybe we can get the Olympic Rings/logo & Faux Gold Medal for SlopeStyle Snowboarding, put on top of the State Agriculture building at Meyers, where Jamie lives and where we all feel like we are entering South Lake Tahoe. (Guess we could ask our Governor – and let him come up to congratulate her too.)

Good News!!! A parade and possibly a ceremony is in the planning stages for our local Tahoe Olympians!!! No time, date or location has been set,but a city council member told me that this event WILL happen.

Great news OLS! I started calling around to inquire about permissions for an Olympic Rings logo sign at or near the Bug Station in Meyers (the entrance to South Shore Tahoe). I called the State Ag Border Stations office, and plan to call the State Assemblywoman’s office (& Governor’s office, and State Senators Feinstein & Boxer) if folks think it is a good idea. We cannot have an Olympic Torch, since we have not hosted the Olympics – but can likely have the Olympic Rings logo if we get all the permissions. Yay….something positive to think about!
