S. Tahoe library measure on June 3 ballot

Measure L on the June 3 ballot will ask voters on the California side of the South Shore if they want to continue funding the local county library.

There is already an assessment on property taxes. This would continue the $20 annual fee for another 12 years starting in 2015-16 so there is no interruption in services. An inflation adjustment not to exceed 3 percent is also part of the measure.

The money the county supplies to the library does not cover all of its costs.

On top of this tax the Friends of the Library is a nonprofit that raises money to put on special programs at the South Lake Tahoe facility.

Voting yes on this measure will be a no brainer! And even though I am only a renter, I would gladly give my landlord the $20 every year to cover this portion of the property taxes. Hopefully the rest of those living in El Dorado County within the basin see this as I do. And yes, I am also a contributing Friend of the Library.

While I am a newcomer to SLT, old timers have shared their memories of when the library was only open a couple days a week, for only a few hours. How sad! This is too valuable of a resource to lose.

For the low annual cost of less than one book, purchased on Amazon, each and everyone of us can keep our library open and serving our community.

This is not a new tax. We’re already paying it. Let’s vote yes on Measure L and continue to support this amazing place that provides so much to all of us. I ♥ our library!
