BevMo, which plans to open later this year in South Lake Tahoe, is getting ready to tear down the existing building at the Y.

There will be a public hearing on the proposal on March 13 at 3pm at Lake Tahoe Airport. This will before the city’s Planning Commission and a Tahoe Regional Planning Agency hearing officer.

The plan is to demolish the existing 9,972 square foot building to the left of the T.J. Maxx store. It would be replaced with a 10,000 square foot building. While more commercial floor area will be built, overall coverage will be reduced.

Maybe BevMo should check into the Staples building, if it is closing they can just move in there.

do they know about the problem with getting high pressure water for the fire sprinklers?

I think it is so unfortunate to create ANOTHER place to purchase alcohol. Like there aren’t enough places in town to get alcohol? What message is this promoting? Not a positive one, in my opinion. Very sad.

Jonathan, I do believe the fire pressure issue has been solved

Hopefully this new building apparently on former wetlands will take into consideration the energy used to heat the building, do competent deicing, ect… Remember, almost every kind of energy short of passive solar pollutes.

Perry- Have you taken the same consideration with your own home? And/or are you offering to help BevMo with such an expense? And how is that passive solar doesn’t pollute? The windows and insulation are produced, transported, and installed how? Explain passive de-icing please.

    Romie:

The same question could be asked of you. . . (&) there is no ‘Extra’ expense if they have a design team that knows what they’re doing (&) single pane windows and (older) fiberglass insulation are also brought from elsewhere, which is why ‘credit’ is given for less mileage from the factory (&) passive deicing is also known as “sunlight”, as that knowledgeable design team can position and outfit the building to expose itself to it. . .

It is in the Operation & Maintenance that the real money is saved (not in the construction) – over a length of time; reduced energy load. . .

“Photosynthesis pays all the bills”. . .

I think it is sad the current owners of the property will displace a business that has been in this location for 35 years. The laundromat is being evicted and finding another location is very difficult.

Glad to see someone build something on the right side of the road. All the people heading to the beaches and campgrounds won’t have to cross traffic to buy beer.

Someone should open a sandwich shop next door. Sell cheap ice and firewood too.

Personally I’m glad to see a new business and new upgraded structure go in at that site which is pretty much at the entrance to the City. In addition to improved aesthetics this should provide some environmental improvements, this business should bring much needed revenues to our town, and it will provide a few more jobs. Also, BevMo sells products other than just booze.

It seems like no matter what happens some people just can’t be happy.

I agree with 4-mer-usmc. Bevmo is hardly the store of choice for alcoholics and anything that brings anchor businesses to the Y is good.

Shadow, I beleive the Laundrymat in the globin(across from the campground)bld. may be for sale, maybe they should check into that as it is a much better location with highway visability
