Horizon to be resurrected as Park Tahoe
By Kathryn Reed
The Horizon is officially gone. The doors were shuttered Monday. Signs were taken down last week.
Now begins more than $40 million in renovations that is expected to transform the Stateline property into a viable business.
Brothers Jon and David Park hope their renamed Park Tahoe Casino Resort will reopen in the summer.
This isn’t the first time there has been a Park Tahoe on the South Shore. What is now MontBleu was Park Tahoe when it first opened in the late 1970s. Within a month Tahoe Douglas firefighters closed it down. It wasn’t long before it reopened as Caesars Tahoe.
The new Park Tahoe is across the street, but still involves the same Park family. In a family split of assets last year the brothers now have control of the dilapidated former Horizon.
Rooms will be remodeled, restaurants and bars upgraded and added, and the gaming area revamped.
Outside improvements include changes to the façade and making a more friendly area for pedestrians.
Food and drinks will be available outside near fire pits. The pool will be redesigned to have a resort feel, along with cabanas.
Warner Hospitality out of Las Vegas will be managing the property. It is going to be recreated in a Hard Rock theme.
There is a Hard Rock Café at Harveys, however the cafes and casinos are separate companies. The rewards programs for each are not compatible and they do not work together. The café is a concessionaire of the casino.
Very glad to see the JUNK called Horizon is no more, good luck to the Park family I’m sure it will be a much better place.
When does the lease expire on Montbleu?
The Park Rock Hotel and Casino.
Good luck to them. If my brother and I had forty million dollars we would sit on our fat wallets and enjoy life. No chance I would gamble on a Stateline property.
when does it plan on opening?
I Can’t Wait! I hope it’s a huge success!
That place is one big t urd to polish.
Elvis has left the building!!
too bad they’re not tearing it to the ground and starting over. It would be fun to witness a nice implosion.
Wait a minute, Park Tahoe again? Are we getting our movies theater(s) back at the Y now?
“Park Tahoe” already exists . . .

Do they realize this? Or just not care? Tourists will be confused. But, the Inn will likely benefit from the publicity and obvious name confusion.
So there’s already the Park Tahoe Inn and Hard Rock Cafe. Now there’s another Park Tahoe and another hard rock themed business? Who’s the genius who came up with that idea?!
Kudos to the Park family. If it is even ‘half’ of the former “Sahara-Tahoe” in it’s heyday; locals and tourists will be very happy.
And yes, Elvis has left the building, but not before his generous contribution to our community, namely Barton Hospital. Good luck and success to Park Tahoe!
