Businesses on Emerald Bay Road are making changes.

The long vacant building that used to house a Chinese restaurant has been demolished. In its place and using the same footprint will be a building that will house South Shore Bikes and SUP Tahoe.

“Originally they planned on remodeling, but found that the building required so much upgrade that it was more cost effective to rebuild,” Hilary Roverud, director of Development Services for South Lake Tahoe, told Lake Tahoe News.

Those businesses have to leave the old AAA building that is a half block north of the Y in South Lake Tahoe because it is going to be torn down and a Bev Mo will be erected.

Keith Simpson last year sold Murphy’s Irish Pub to go to work for the Food Network as host of the show “Buy This Restaurant”. Sonney’s BBQ Shack has taken over that location.

Burgers A-Go-Go is now Tahoe Burgers & More.

Lazy S Lodge is on the market.

  5. Bob Fleischer says - Posted: May 8, 2014

I think Bev Mo is a liquor store

bevmo is kind of like a discount warehouse for liquor. thinka very small costco with a huge amount of different liquors

BevMo? Really? Is it REALLY necessary for SLT to be taken over by chain stores? The exact same stores show up in one community after another all along Highway 50 from Sacramento to Placerville. Then you escape the chain stores and see only trees and local businesses with their unique offerings and appearances. SLT had it’s own unique look not all that long ago, with the arrival of each franchise, SLT loses another piece of what has made it special.

Sure, some of the old places are eyesores, or even unsafe, but BevMo? Ugh! It’s bad enough to see the big box stores going in along 50 from the Y to stateline, but it used to be that getting on 89 meant leaving the city behind.

Is it too late to rethink the BevMo plan?

@Know Bears-I don’t know…think of all those part time minimum wage jobs they will bring.

Know Bears. With the recent Stare Decisis – John Roberts – US Supreme Court rulings, the future will be ruled by the Semi-Christian Aristocratic Corporate Class Trillionaires that dominate the working class. Think France circa 1700’s.

Don’t fear Bev mo George Bush is not involved. We need businesses on the RIGHT side of hwy 89. Combined with the new bike and sup rental shop and Anderson’s rentals it sounds great to me.

People can buy beer, ice, rent boards and bikes… etc without having to cross hwy 89. Buy morning pastries at Don’s Bake Shop. All that’s needed is for the new BBQ joint to start selling sandwiches to go to beach goers, campers, and bicyclists. The locals will still go to the cheap liquor store across from NAPA. Been to a few Bevmo’s and their prices don’t compare to the little liquor store.

Been awhile since I traveled hwy 50 West. Where are all the Bev mos that are surrounding us?
