To the residents of So. Lake Tahoe. We Have been given a 30 day stay of demoltion of the Barton house near the “Y”! The TRPA and the city are still trying to work out a deal with the families that own this old gem of a ranch house.
Folks, this is a historic “Old Tahoe” home. It needs to be saved and used as a place to re-visit the Tahoe from years gone by. There’s ample parking behind and it would be a wonderful place to show off Tahoe’s past. It’s right off the hiway so there is easy access for visitors and locals alike. It would be a great addition to the community ( heck, it’s been here longer than anybody I know!) .
I just recently found out there’s a paint that can seal and safely cover the old lead based paint exterior. The interior? Hell, if there’s mold and mildew inside, I’ll get together some volunteers along with myself and Catlapper to clean that up!–Catlapper here! I made some suggestions a whiles back about restoration. I think Borges’ carriages could make rounds throughout the Y neighborhood-there are a lot of old houses there too, and tourists, and kids could see what it was like in the old days, or a ride out to Vahalla would be cool. The little cabins out back of the ranch house could sell locally made products, and a petting zoo would be cool too! Most kids these days don’t know where the heck their food comes from…just some ideas….
Lets save this old place, fix it up and show it off!!! Proud local of 52 years, Old Long Skiis

Great options OLS. I grew up in a tract home. When I was a little kid most likely during the early 60s, I apparently did a visit of around a week on Mottsville Ln. at a working cattle ranch. The memories were quite a different experience than what I was used to. I’m sure many kids today in this city are in a similar boat. I hope it gets saved in some acceptable manner too. Good luck in a great solution.
