SLT looking for ideas for city bike network
South Lake Tahoe is hosting a workshop to focus on options for additional bike routes, enhancing the bicycling experience, and reviewing strategies for promoting safe bicycling in and around the Y.
Specifically, the area is contained within the Tahoe Valley Area Plan, which is being put together.
City officials want to know what the public envisions for future links and strategies that should be considered to improve safety.
The July 21 meeting is at 5:30pm at Lake Tahoe Airport.
For more information, contact John Hitchcock at 530.542.7472.
We need a public walk/bike lighted corridor on both sides of 50 from stateline to the Y. This benifits everyone but will cost a mint.
Keep bike lanes completely away from cars as much as possible, to reduce interactions that can lead to injuries/deaths.
Tahoebluewire,
Apparently this is ultimately CalTrans’s responsibility. Maybe 2017, I’m under the impression it is already funded.
Perry as of the update given to the council at the mid June meeting only half of this strip is funded and Caltrans is waffling on the rest.
As you’re no doubt aware, we installed pedestrian lighting from Trout Creek to Wildwood Avenue on Highway 50 during two water quality improvement projects recently completed. We were able to do so through a cooperative agreement with the City of South Lake Tahoe, which provided funding for the lighting. We requested a similiar agreement for the Y to Trout Creek project we have programmed for 2017-19. Unfortunately, the city wasn’t able to fund the lighting for this upcoming project. Additionally, due to a shortage in funds, we are forced to scale back this upcoming project to go from Trout Creek to the Truckee River Bridge, about 1 mile short of the Y. We hope to fill in the gap to the Y with a futre project when funding becomes available.
Steve Nelson, Caltrans
Mr. Nelson, Who pays for the O&M cost for these projects?
How about linking the bike trails to the public transporation services out to Meyers?…. Oh yea there is none!.. Never mind! Oh and why would anyone ride all the way out along sawmill road to get from Meyers to ” the y”… I know I would take the direct route along hw50 … Bike trail or-no bike trail… The trail along sawmill rd was a waste of time and money ! What ever happened to linking the back of the sierra tract to elks club?.. The trails are already there!.. Just pave it!… Pull your heads out!
