Is this another dog and pony show like parking meters? Meeting after meeting don’t listen then city will do what they want to do. Again we get to vote in November on 3 city council members. Get out and vote.

Right…”asking for community members” input so they can say they did that. Then as usual they will take up with their own agenda! Stand by you pathetic politicians November is coming. And YOU will be GOING!!

most of the agenda items that the council votes on are based upon recommendations of the city staff. The city Staff pushed hard for paid parking, and started with Tony Orourk

It’s pretty cool as is. What needs improving?

Agree with TBW, the park is nice the way it is, and attracts many with what it has to offer, no changes needed.

They are probably looking for an excuse to start charging to use the parking and beach.

  7. If I were in Charge says - Posted: August 8, 2014

I think they should charge for parking and/or day use at Regan, and at all city beaches. That would be a great revenue generator for money to improve things like streets, bike paths, improving blight, which in turn improves the city as a whole, both to create a more live able community for the locals, and a more desirable attraction for tourists. Most beaches/cities/resort towns have paid parking. If you’re a local, you can probably figure out where to park to not pay, and the tourists who are spending money to come and play here aren’t gonna bat an eye over throwing a couple bucks in the meter……

    If I were in Charge:

I think you’re absolutely correct on all counts. But if some of the good people in SLT knew your identity and my identity they would likely tar and feather us for having those opinions. There’s a whole lot of the “it’s good enough” mentality in SLT and a whole lot of people who aren’t willing to pay to make anything nicer. When I was at work I found it disheartening but unfortunately not surprising to overhear a visitor/customer say to their wife that it appeared the only taste in SLT was in the residents’ mouths. Not a good thing.

4-mer, parking revenue is peanuts. If we are serious about raising $$ increase the TOT and enforce all of the vacation home rental ordinances from those renting illegally to the noise to the garbage to the too many cars. That’s easy to collect $$ and the enforcement would make locals happy, not piss them off.

Love Regan Beach, but I plan to show up and give feedback that the fencing needs to be fixed so that little kids can’t fall over the side and that the bathrooms need a makeover. The views from here are epic. I think we could do a lot more with this beach/play area!

    reza:

I disagree that parking revenue would be peanuts and think a reasonable paid parking program instead of a miniature test case could generate a fair amount of revenue. Also, parking revenues are only a component part of a revenue generation budget and they are never intended to be some type of a huge cash haul. It’s a situation where collectively smaller sources of revenues add up.

I stand by what I said before: there’s a whole lot of people in SLT who aren’t willing to pay to make anything nicer.

The city is making plenty of revenue from Regan Beach. Here are the rental fees straight from the city website: The rate for renting Regan Beach West is: Monday – Thursday $150.00 per hour, Fridays
and Sundays $200.00 per hour and Saturdays $250.00 per hour. All rentals are a two hour minimum.
If you look at the schedule for tomorrow-it is rented from 12noon to 8:30pm and on Sunday there are 4 separate events- each 2 hours.
What does that mean for the citizens of SLT? We cannot use that part of the park tomorrow or Sunday.
So, NO, I don’t think we need to pay for parking on Regan Beach. The city is making enough revenue to fix up the bathrooms and make other improvements.
