South Lake Tahoe will have seven people to choose from in November to fill the three City Council seats.

Incumbents Tom Davis, Brooke Laine and Angela Swanson are on the ballot. Former Councilman Bruce Grego, former candidate Austin Sass, and newcomers Wendy David and Matt Palacio round out the field.

Suzie Alessi is running uncontested for another term as city clerk. Dave Olivo has no challengers to retain his seat as city treasurer.

El Dorado County Elections Department had not updated its list so Lake Tahoe News is refraining from listing candidates for other South Shore races until it is complete.

Moved up here over 20 years ago and noticed that no one runs against the incumbent for city clerk. I looked it up and for a six figure salary all you need is to live within the city limits . Not a bad position for no experience, just need to be elected . I wished I researched this earlier and filed the paper work. This person has been sitting pretty all these years without anyone running against her.

And she does a very fine job as City Clerk. The best City Clerk the City has ever had.

If she is doing a good job, her experience as City Clerk is valuable. It is a busy and complex position which interfaces with City executives, City Council (individually & collectively), all City departments, the public, all City records, & the public noticing, agenda & recording of City meetings. Attend some council meetings to see how effective the City Clerk is, & stop in her office to request old minutes or info to get a better perspective. (Not to mention having to deal with many conflicting personalities :-(. Not so easy!

I agree with Mr. Fay’s and Irish Wahini’s remarks regarding the current City Clerk and disagree that no experience to perform that function is required. Before making blatant assumptions about the demands and requirements of other peoples professions individuals should make some effort to become informed.

    “Local”:

So, it’s “Money for Nothin’,& the (perks) are free”, eh (?) … a typical comment for a ‘local’ these days, but not any that I grew up with. . .

Think how ‘professional’ you would get in a hurry if you had to deal with an ongoing, uninformed ‘following’ (vs. ‘leading’) platform that South Lake Tahoe has become. . .

In that case, I think I’d want at least a few folks in City Hall that know what they’re doing & why – and that’s what we have – only a few that know what they’re doing. . .(but still not necessarily why). . .

Gary Bowen, you are a wise man and I have always enjoyed your comments on the laketahoenews.net website . I wish you were a candidate for the South Lake Tahoe City Council. You would certainly have my vote.

I watch too many council meetings, she is one of the few participants I respect.
