Study: Nev. a dangerous place for women
By Ana Ley, Las Vegas Sun
Nevada ranks sixth in the nation in the rate of women killed by men, according to a study published by a gun control advocacy group.
A nationwide analysis of 2012 homicide data by the Violence Policy Center in Washington, D.C., shows that nearly two female victims are killed at the hands of male victims for every 100,000 residents in Nevada.
Nationwide, 1,706 women were murdered by men in 2012, at a rate of 1.16 per 100,000.
NV unsafe? You’ve got to be kidding. Look who did that alleged “study”. And the methodology. Deaths per 100,000? Really? How about comparing the overall number. NV is a much smaller state than IL so the “per 100K” is skewed badly. In fact, when my ex- was determined to be potentially homicidal & suicidal, my local law enforcement folks recommended that I go ahead & get a restraining order AND back it up with a firearm I was comfortable with. Luckily I had years of firearms experience so I took their recommendation to heart. My ex- scoffed at the restraining order but decided to leave me alone once he knew I could defend myself.
X. Women being shot and killed by Men at twice the national average is no joke. The rate was measured per 100k of population which is common, like comparing cancer rates in different States per 100k of population.
