What will GOP do with its new power in Nevada?
By Kyle Roerink, Las Vegas Sun
Gov. Brian Sandoval and Nevada’s Republican Party will call the shots in the Legislature.
They will drive the hard decisions on the state’s $20 billion budget, Clark County’s failing public school system and the rising costs of health care.
But the Republican Party also must deal with itself.
The GOP scored an Election Day victory that was as unexpected as it was unprecedented. The party united for the win but now must remain together during the legislative session. It won’t be easy.
Ideologically, Nevada Republicans cover the spectrum.
I am writing to thank the voters for electing me to the Utility District. This Thursday they will swear me in. I intend to do the best I can to earn the trust of those who voted for me as well as for those who voted for Andy Chapman who I think is a very good man.
In other words I intend to represent everyone. Please feel free to call me on any issue. My cell # is 545-3563. I’m usually up until at least 10PM. Just during the campaign when I was working to meet people at the Post Offices I was given some very good ideas that will have practical application. So let me know what you think.
Thanks again,
Duane Wallace
Good luck to you Duane.
One little mentioned effect of the Republican takeover in Nevada is the effect on the judiciary branch. The three new Court of Appeals Justices will be appointed by Governor Sandoval.
The judicial appointments shouldn’t upset people too much. Gov. Sandoval is a very moderate Republican. What some would call a RINO. His appointments will likely be more fair than what we’re getting on the Federal level these days.
God bless MODERATE Republicans!
