Calif. DMV prepares for undocumented residents

California residents who are living without documentation soon will be eligible to apply for driver’s licenses, thanks to a new law that takes effect in the new year.

The state’s Department of Motor Vehicles is expecting 1.6 million immigrants to apply in the first few years, and law enforcement, community groups and others are preparing for the surge.

They’re driving all over the state — in California’s cities, in rural areas, commuting to work and school or just traveling. Like most people do — only in the shadows.

California isn’t the first state to have this kind of law — Connecticut is implementing a similar one now, and a handful of other states already allow undocumented immigrants to apply for driver’s licenses or card equivalents — but it’s is certainly the biggest. The expectation of 1.6 million new applicants has spurred the state’s DMV to add 800 employees to help with the transition.

Get ready. Nevada did this last year. The DMV in NV used to be so easy. There was never more than a few minutes wait, very organized, very pleasant. Not anymore. Oh, NV is still well organized. They’re easier to deal with than California ever was. But there will be a wait of at least an hour now. The abruptness of the change was striking.
    Oh well.

Rock…get a clue by now: I don’t care what you think. I will throw out nick names and couldn’t care less what you think. The fact remains the same. They better have to present proof of insurance like the rest of us.

What is wrong with the whole world coming to the USA.
Heck if we can handle millions of illegal aliens why not billions and give the entire world a chance to suck on the taxpayer dime.
Who needs open space and efficient government?

GA. what a jerk you continue to be… bah humbug b=÷$ h÷#&

  11. CA DMV says - Posted: December 25, 2014

Ok, GA always has names for others, who cares! Bottom line, his point is … Will they have insurance like the rest of us legal citizens? Better yet how about drivers ed? If you ever get hit by an illegal immigrant/alien it’s a terrible situation with or without a license. And those who are up and up with the law end up paying for someone else’s mistake. As we all know insurance is not cheap. I wonder what type of discount CA will give on their insurance ? Maybe it will be similar to their health care and college tuition…free
