Nevada wants park users in Tahoe to pay
By Benjamin Spillman, Reno Gazette-Journal
It’s no surprise business is booming at Nevada’s Lake Tahoe State Park, Spooner Backcountry.
The park is home to stunning Lake Tahoe views, its own alpine lake and the Flume Trail which is probably the best mountain biking experience in Nevada.
The only problem is not everyone who visits pays the entrance fee, especially if they’re coming from the north via Tunnel Creek Road.
That’s the explanation behind a newly posted sign at Tunnel Creek Road reminding hikers about the $1 fee to walk in and mountain bikers about the $2 fee for riders. It’s one of a few projects State Parks has in the works to improve fee collection in the coming year, said Eric Johnson, Nevada State Parks administrator.
Back when we used to mountain bike, we used to shake our heads at our friends who would park OUTSIDE the park, then ride their bikes in and use the trails and the facilities for free. SO tacky.
Dog, couldn’t agree more. If one rides from ones house fine. But if you drive, pay the fee folks.

If this article said something about calif charging a fee for access or use Dog would be ripping the state a new one. But since its nevada she seems to throw the bad vibes at people who park outside and walk or bike in to avoid paying the fee. This seems rather contradictory to me. But hey, its just my observation.
Bats, you’re being an idiot. Did I say which state parks our friends wouldn’t pay? No.
Yes, government control of everything annoys me to no end. But I have NO problem whatsoever with user fees. Beats the heck out of taxes paid by people who never use the “services” provided.
You seem to think you know what I believe, but you clearly do not. So stop stating my views for me.
Dog, I have no idea what you believe except what you post on this blog. Seems most of your rants are aimed at bashing the state, government, progressive and environmentally inclined and anyone who might get support in one manner or another. Thats just how I see it.
You just can’t admit when you’re wrong, can you?
There is no right or wrong here, just opinions and from my perspective, well, dont really feel like arguing with someone I disagree with 99% of the time.
All roads lead to outrage for some, it seems.
