James Hansen, former director of the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies and adjunct professor at Columbia University’s Earth Institute, is the keynote speaker at Operation Sierra Storm on Jan. 8 at Harveys in Stateline.

Hansen’s presentation will include his take on assuring real progress on climate — whether and how an international climate accord can achieve intergenerational and global justice.

His testimony on climate change to congressional committees in the 1980s helped raise broad awareness of the global warming issue. He was designated by Time magazine in 2006 as one of the 100 most influential people on Earth.

Bernice Notenboom, climate journalist, science writer will also share her latest excursions of the North Pole and discuss her film “The Arctic March” that is soon to be released.

Notenboom will talk from 7:45-9am and Hansen from 9:15-10:30am; both in the Cabaret Theatre.

I’m on my way to bed; I expect I’ll do a serious reading tomorrow morning.

But, given the expertise of the expert folks on the Lake Tahoe News forum, I’m probably just wasting my time. I mean, why should we expect this guy to know more than the grocery baggers and cab drivers posting here?

With all due respect to grocery baggers; I know a lot of them who are pursuing their careers because, let’s face it, there’s nothing else available here to survive on.

And, according to our political experts, it’s their fault.

we certainly do think a lot of our self. We think we can control the weather but as usual we always fail you can not fool mother nature.

Mother Nature is the one that is in control, what is happening is just the cycle of life here on earth. These things have been happening for millions of years this is not unusual for earth to go through changes as we are seeing today. Droughts come and they go, they happened many years ago long before the Industrial Revolution and they will go with or without our help. Don’t let the water run while brushing your teeth would save billions of gallons of water every year.

James Hansen got hockey pucked when his hockey stick graphs showing global warming were totally discredited. Didn’t seem to slow him up at all. No shame.

The issue isnt the science…ill give it to you. the issue is how you want to solve it. While india and china pollute like crazy you folks want to hamper our already pretty clean living. Not to mention you want to give taxing authority to unelected unaccountable buearocrats that do not practice what they preach. It sure seems that you want to use climate issues to control people and further your power. and the science did have a problem a year back when all those pesky emails showed up describing how data was being skewed and left out. But hey, lets punish the usa and free pass the real modern polluters.

    Rick,
Gross error, my mistake. Doesn’t change fraudulent science.
I trust Mother Jones as you would trust National Review.

Thanks Dogula again for an interesting thread. It’s a funny topic and I’m not quite “buying” into the whole idea of global warming. It’s funny how every time Tahoe has a drought year this topic becomes a great excuse. Also, I must say I have decided to retire from posting on LTN…happy trails or threads!
