“No parking” signs along Lake Tahoe Boulevard and Sawmill Pond Road are being noticed more this year than years past. Part of this has to do with the 1.7 mile bike trail that was put in last fall paralleling the boulevard so more people are in this area. And with the weather more like spring than winter, people are using the trail and wanting to park where they had been allowed to up until a month ago.

There is a wide spot on the north side the road at the intersection of Sawmill Pond that was initially used for parking. Now there are multiple “no parking” signs.

A group of cyclists riding the trail on Friday were miffed this access has been taken away, as well as on Sawmill Pond. They said the U.S. Forest Service owned lot at the pond is icy, creating a whole other set of problems.

“Those signs are not new. We put them up every winter,” Tom Halverson with El Dorado County Department of Transportation told Lake Tahoe News. “When there is snow on the ground they park in the street and go play around at the lake. It causes traffic problems for snow removal.”

Thinking winter had arrived when the snow fell in December, the county put up the signs. Halverson said they wouldn’t come down until spring.

El Dorado County sign makers need to remember I before E except after C.

What he didn’t know until LTN pointed it out is that one of the “yield” signs is misspelled. Halverson said he would go look at it.

That whole intersection and park area is ridiculous. The “No Parking” signs have appeared, disappeared, and reappeared at least 3 different times. It has NOT just been a ‘winter’ issue. What is the reason??
Build a nice park and trail area, and then forbid people from parking nearby to use it? What is the sense in that? What possible reason?
Not to mention that the amount of signage there now is absurd. Drive through on a dark night sometime, and the reflection from your headlights will make it look like you’re downtown, not out in the county.
    Somebody went WAY overboard.

Why were tourists allowed to park on the new bike trail in Meyers in front of Liras and the golf course, during Christmas. Several million dollars were just spent last summer/fall to put in the bike trail and install erosion controls. Why aren’t there “no parking” signs here ?

Yet you South Lake Tahoe residents continue to clamor that you’d be better off being part of El Dorado County.

    COPPER go a way

    i think very few people in the city would like to be back under county control, just a few odd ball conspiracy people. Just like people in meyers dont want to be part of the city(yet they sure do complain that the city wont listen to non residents);

Copper… umm the City of South Lake Tahoe IS part of El Dorado County.

Until bicycles sprout wings parking lots will be needed.

I was looking at the old Carrow’s building a few days ago. What a great spot for a family friendly restaurant. Remodel the Motel Six too. Look at all the parking spots. People could bring their children and have them access the bike trail system without having them bike down hwy 50. They could walk to the miniature golf and bike from there to Baldwin Beach, Meyers and El Dorado Beach safely.

So now all the cyclists are parking on the DIRT across the street. Nice planning. Take the signs down, it is ridiculous that this is happening. Parking, no parking, parking, no parking……pfffft.

Put up signs about parking during snow removal. Driver beware. So a plow driver who occasionally plows past this area is taking precedent over HUNDREDS cars of families all winter is simply not justifiable. Times change. With this new bike path open the scenario is different over there. DOT needs to change this lame policy.

Without snow, the County road warriors (sand truck and plow drivers) have nothing to do, they are wasting a fortune in personnel and fuel driving around and not accomplishing much. I have seen them standing around all over District 5. This certainly is not the fault of the workers, but rather lazy management used to no accountability. The County is in the red but wasting money every day.

The cars parked on the bike path at liras were ticketed.( money should go toward bike path repairs?!)… But I thought it was hilarious

Sunriser, good idea, do you know anybody who wants to open one up? Motel 6 would love to rent it out to a good operator, esp if they will have a great breakfast.

Relo, How about getting rid of the LA/San Jose look and demolish the Old Carrows, Motel 6, Outdoorsman, parking lots, build a proper bridge over the Upper Truckee and restore the river with exploration paths etc.

Then, move out the Muffler Palace and Meeks Lumber and do the same thing at Trout Creek. IMHO.

Atomic has it right, just like parking on streets during snow removal conditions

The spelling on the sign is hilarious. Does this indicate how good the county boys and girls are at their other tasks too? Maybe Norma Santiago can be a proof reader for county signs….she’s looking for work I hear. She’d hire a consultant to do the job.

County Snow plow driver, plowing what little snow we have had in Christmas valley hits a tree, hits a snow stake twice while backing up on different days of course. (not even near any objects, houses etc). I personally bent it up straight the first time, gave up when they hit it again. So they replaced it. Just stuck it in the snow instead of driving it in the ground. The snow melted and you know where it is today.
    Unbelievable.

Um Crank. Pretty cheap shot. Do we really want to “investigate” the past and present Newspapers, Billboards, Roadsigns, Sport Jersey’s etc for spelling errors too. Do a quick search… there are thousands of them.

  16. Cranky Gerald says - Posted: January 25, 2015

    Hi Rock-

You are correct, cheap shot. My frustration showing. Sorry. Obviously I think our prior Supervisor took us to the cleaners, and I worked on her original election effort.

I don’t want to look backwards, just try to do it better going forward.

Jees, the Tribune blows grammar and other stuff in its headlines so often you wonder if anyone proofs the final copy. But signs that cost a ton to make and hang….when something so simple gets screwed up, don’t you really worry about the big stuff in the background?

  17. reloman says - Posted: January 25, 2015

Rock, it is doubtful that motel 6 will sell and if they do it would be over market price, which means any of the govt entities cant buy it, ie tahoe consevancy, who is looking to purchase property in sez areas, which all of those mention are. Not only that but we would have another 150k hole in the city budget because of TOT and real estate taxes.

  18. Rock4tahoe says - Posted: January 26, 2015

Ok Relo, then let’s just keep the cheap San Jose of the Sierras look while people vacation elsewhere.
