Food logistics forum

The American Frozen Food Institute and the Global Cold Chain Alliance will co-host the first Food Logistics Forum, June 6-8, at the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe in Incline Village.

The joint forum will replace the 26-year-old AFFI Distribution and Logistics Conference.

The conference is aimed at logistics professionals serving every link in the food chain — from transportation managers at frozen food manufacturing facilities to public refrigerated warehouse operators — and will include educational resources, regulatory information and business development topics.




Stoli cocktail party at PlumpJack

On Feb. 4 www.7×7.com will have a party for the launch of the Stoli Winter Cocktails at PlumpJack Cafe at Squaw. There will be complimentary bites and Stoli cocktails. The party is from 4-6pm and there will be a photographer and a photo booth.

In addition to the complimentary Stoli cocktails, PlumpJack will be collecting donations for a pediatric hospital in Haiti. It is run by www.artistsforpeaceandjustice.com.

TOCCATA performance

TOCCATA (The Orchestra and Community Choral Artists of the Tahoe Area) presents its BACH & BRUCH concert series featuring the Tahoe Symphony Orchestra, Chorus, and soloists.

The featured soloist will be “Red Stradivarius” violinist Elizabeth Pitcairn, performing the Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor and Dvorak’s Romanze for violin. The chorus will present J.S. Bach’s masterpiece, Magnificat, with vocal soloists Katharine DeBoer, Anna Helwing and Joy Strotz, soprano; Susan Benefield, mezzo soprano; Andy Sonnemaker and John Hutto, tenors; and Stuart Duke, baritone.

Performances are Feb. 5 at 7:30pm in the Cal Neva Resort in Crystal Bay: Feb: 6 at 7:30pm at Resort at Squaw Creek; Feb. 7 at 3pm at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in South Lake Tahoe; and Feb. 9 at 7:30pm atTrinity Episcopal Church in Reno.

General admission at the door is $25 adults, $15 seniors, $5 students, and children under 12 are free with a paying adult. Preferred seating is $35 ($40 at the resorts).

Snowshoe Thompson talk

Nina MacLeod will talk about Snowshoe Thompson and the history of long boards at the Lake Tahoe Historical Society’s quarterly meeting on Feb. 9 at 7pm in the Lodge of Camp Richardson.

MacLeod, a native of Oslo, Norway, and Lake Tahoe resident, is a ski instructor and an expert in cross country.
