South Tahoe initiating neighborhood meetings

South Lake Tahoe is beginning to schedule neighborhood meetings. The city wants to partner with local citizens to help increase communication with neighbors and businesses to help facilitate improvements in their neighborhoods.

The July 20 meeting is from 6:30-8pm for the neighborhoods of Al Tahoe, Bijou Pines and Pioneer Village at the Senior Center (3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd.)

The Aug. 23 meeting is from 6:30-8pm at Bijou Elementary School multipurpose room (3501 Spruce Ave.) The neighborhoods are Rancho Bijou and Bijou Acres.

Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce is conducting a survey to find out what people have to say about signs in South Lake Tahoe. The survey will close July 20 so there is time to give the city the info before the July 26 meeting. A Lake Tahoe News Question of the Week” also asked what the rules should be.

• Carson City Airport has been awarded a $1.3 million federal grant to continue work on a parallel taxiway so airplanes won’t need to backtrack on the runway.




Winners selected for celebrity golf tournament

Lake Tahoe News subscribers Connor Yingling and Judi Allen are going the American Century Celebrity Golf Tournament next week.

First, they knew Neil Lomax, who has played in the previous five tournaments, is not coming back this year. Second, they were randomly selected from the people with correct answers to the trivia question to win the pair of tickets to one day of the tournament.

El Dorado County mental health seeking public input

The El Dorado County Health Services Department, Mental Health Division invites the public to participate in the community planning process to review El Dorado County’s current Mental Health Service Act Programs and provide comment on the county’s 2011-12 annual update covering Community Services and Supports, Workforce Education and Training, Prevention and Early Intervention and Innovation Plans.

Meetings are July 13 from noon-1pm at 1900 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe and July 14 from noon-1 pm at 670 Placerville Drive, Placerville.

In addition to the community meetings, members of the public with comments and questions about the Innovation Plan may send them to:

Dugard interview to be aired July 10

ABC News will air the Diane Sawyer interview with Jaycee Lee Dugard on July 10 at 9pm.

Part of the interview involves Dugard’s book “A Stolen Life” that will be released this month.

The New York Times reported the network did not write a check for the rights to an interview, but it did pay a six-figure sum for the rights to Dugard’s home movies.

Memorial service for Presbyterian minister

A memorial service and dedication for Steve Blocher will be July 10 at 2pm at the Zephyr Point Presbyterian Conference Center.

Blocher was minister of the Presbyterian Church in South Lake Tahoe from 1996 until his death last fall.

The dog-friendly Annual Tail & Ale Festival is July 8 from 5-9pm at the Tahoe Biltmore in Crystal Bay.
