Candidates forum in South Lake Tahoe

The South Tahoe Chamber of Commerce is hosting a candidates forum for the offices of El Dorado County judge, sheriff and assessor.

The forum is May 25 at 6pm at the South Tahoe Senior Center at 3052 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe.

• Douglas County commissioners barely made the deadline of sending a balanced budget to the state by the third Monday of May. Officials approved the $123.8 million budget May 17.

Girls Gone Wild filming in South Tahoe

A massive pink bus is parked in front of Whiskey Dicks Saloon in South Lake Tahoe. This is because Girls Gone Wild is looking for the hottest girl in Lake Tahoe.

Segments for an upcoming reality show on HDNet will be filmed at the bar.

The party starts at 9 tonight. Women get in free; guys need to pay $10, which includes a DVD.

The theme is “naughty school girl.”

Evening dedicated to South Shore teens

Summer Kickoff is for teenagers throughout the South Shore of Lake Tahoe. It will be at the ball fields at Lake Tahoe Community College in South Lake Tahoe on June 4 from 4-7pm.

It’s sponsored by all the agencies that are part of the Youth Task Force.

There will be a soccer tournament, open mic, urban art demonstration, food provided by Embassy Suites South Lake Tahoe, and more. Employers who have jobs for teens will be there.

Tahoe Arts Project fundraiser

Chevys restaurant in South Lake Tahoe will donate 25 percent of a portion of its proceeds to Tahoe Arts Project on May 21 from 11am to 11pm.

Guests must provide a coupon in order for TAP to receive the donation. Coupons can be picked up at the Lake Tahoe Unified School District Education Center at 1021 Al Tahoe Blvd. or call Tahoe Arts Project at (530) 542.3632.

All proceeds will support TAP’s mission of bringing professional performing arts into the schools and community of South Lake Tahoe.

emerald bay• Emerald Bay will be open to boaters this summer even though some Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Governing Board members thought a temporary ban should be put in place because Asian clams have been found near the mouth of the bay.

• South Tahoe High senior Aimee Pitcher won the 2010 4th Congressional Art Competition. Her artwork will soon hang in the Cannon Tunnel in Washington, D.C., along with the other first place winners from congressional districts from across the nation.

• On May 21 at 10am the community is invited to South Tahoe High School for the groundbreaking of the Tahoe Arts & Design Academy and the Performing Arts Modernization projects.

• Northstar-at-Tahoe opens its golf course May 21.

• The Martis Fund, a Truckee organization created by conservationists and landowners committed to the long-term future of Martis Valley has launched a website to serve as a conduit of information to the public about its programs and grants.




Habitat for Humanity meeting in South Tahoe

Habitat for Humanity has a nationwide program that is organizing in South Lake Tahoe. “A Brush With Kindness” serves low-income homeowners who struggle to maintain the exterior of their homes.

The program provides exterior painting, minor repairs, and some landscape improvement. Volunteers are needed and invited to an information and sign up meeting May 19 at 6:30pm at Hope Lutheran Church, 930 Julie Lane, South Lake Tahoe.

NDOT information available via text messages

Nevada road condition e-mail and text message alerts are now available through the Nevada Department of Transportation’s 511 travel information system.

Known as ClearPath 511, the alerts include tire and chain controls, wind advisories/prohibitions and full road closures due to incidents or weather on state roads.

To sign up, users simply log onto www.nvroads.com, select the “ClearPath” icon and register to receive reports for the state road segments of their choice. The alerts are free, excluding text message fees imposed by individual phone carriers.
