Contractors needed for future STHS projects

SMC Contracting, the general contractor for the buildings under construction at South Tahoe High School, is looking for local construction companies to work on the Performing Arts/Media Arts project that is currently out for bid.

This project is a modernization of the existing theater and new  Media Arts building.

Bidders may stop by the SMC Contracting field office on the STHS campus to view the blueprints. All bidders can pick up the required documents at Tahoe Blueprint (530.541.5042). All bids are due March 4.




Environmental conference at Sierra Nevada College

The 5th biennial conference to learn about the progress made in understanding the Lake Tahoe Basin environment is March 16-17 in Incline Village.

The purpose of this two-day conference is to provide an open forum in which individuals involved in the science and management of the basin can learn about and discuss the latest relevant science and information.

The event is Sierra Nevada College, 291 Country Club Drive Incline Village.




SMG tourism conference

The SMG Tourism,Technology + Marketing Workshop will provide hands-on sessions ranging from social media to SEO basics. With two different tracks, for beginners and more advanced technology users, the workshop will provide valuable basics for those unfamiliar with online technologies, as well as more advanced strategies for those who are already implementing online marketing programs.

Technology has impacted tourism marketing in a multitude of ways, inherently changing the marketing landscape. Tourism executives need to stay informed and understand how these changes affect their marketing strategies, and how using technology can positively impact their bottom line.

Party at Harveys for South Shore youth

kthoJoin the K-Tahoe and the Weekday Wakeup Crew as we broadcast live from the Harveys Arcade Feb. 17 from noon to 3pm.

Harvey’s is throwing a big party geared toward local kids of all ages. The entire event is from 10am-10pm.

There will be free video play and popcorn, a Dance Dance Revolution Contest at 6pm, Guitar Hero contest at 8pm and tokens will be 20 for $3.




LTUSD Two-Way Immersion applicants being sought

Lake Tahoe Unified School District is accepting applications (commitment forms) for the Two-Way Immersion Kindergarten Classes at Bijou Community School.

If you are interested in applying your incoming kindergartner for the lottery, pick up an application at Bijou Community School. Applications are due March 19 at 4pm.

The lottery and mandatory meeting for the TWI kinder class will be March 24 at 6pm.

  • Squaw’s Julia Mancuso, who is in Vancouver to compete in the Winter Olympics, has launched Kiss My Tiara underwear line. It evolved from the lucky underwear she wore in the 2002 Salt Lake City Games and from wearing a tiara at the 2006 Turin Games.

Caregiving is a difficult and often challenging role that one can undertake, and taking the opportunity to share information and feel connected to others who are providing care is a vital step to perform this task to the best of your ability.

Take the opportunity on March 11 from 5:30-7:30pm at the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center, 3050 Highway 50, South Lake Tahoe, to become connected and rejuvenated at your local support group.

Refreshments will be served. Free respite care is available to qualified caregivers. Pre-authorization is required for respite services.

Ski Run area trying to be more prominent

Ski Run Business Improvement District will meet Feb. 17 from 3-5pm at Riva Grill in South Lake Tahoe to gather input about what events the public would like to see, what services might enhance the area and talk about expanding the mix of businesses.




‘Wall of White’ author to speak at LTCC

Author Jennifer Woodlief will read from “A Wall of White” during a Lake Tahoe Community College Writers’ Series event Feb. 26 at 7pm in the library.

This event is free and open to the community.

If you missed her at the Tahoe Writers Works “Celebration of Writers Around the Lake,” now is your chance to her read from her account of the 1982 avalanche at Alpine Meadows that claimed seven lives and revealed the spirit of a mountain town and its people.
