Nevada SAR plate in jeopardy
In order for Nevada specialty license plates to continue being offered by the Department of Motor Vehicles, the organization sponsoring the license plate needs to “sell†1,000 plates for 500 cars.
Nevada Search and Rescue organizations have sold about 300 of the Search and Rescue plates.
A portion of the money raised from the sale of these license plates is shared with each county Search & Rescue unit. There are 17 counties in Nevada.
Purchase of a standard SAR license plate is $61, with an annual renewal of $30. Purchase of a personalized SAR license plate is $96, with an annual renewal of $50. Additional information is at http://www.dmvnv.com/platescharitable.htm#searchrescue.

KTHO and the importance of exercise
No wonder Sierra Athletic Club is called the “gym with a view.” On Sunday, those exercising at the South Lake Tahoe gym in the Tahoe Keys could watch predator birds flying around. On Monday, it was a coyote pacing Venice Drive on the edge of the meadow. Bears have also been part of the wildlife experience.
To learn something about what’s going with actual exercising at the club, listen to KTHO FM-96.1/AM-590 (www.kthoradio.com) on Saturday at 10am or Monday at 6pm when Sierra Athletic Club trainer Rhonda Beckham talks with Lake Tahoe News Publisher Kathryn Reed. Beckham, who owns Help Me Rhonda personal training and Pilates, talks about health and fitness.

Space Station and shuttle visible tonight
From South Tahoe High School’s Frank Kovac, “Assuming you’ll be in South Lake Tahoe (today) and assuming the skies are clear, we have a great opportunity to view NASA’s International Space Station at 5:09pm. No binoculars or telescopes necessary. It will appear as a bright light traveling at about the speed of an airplane (but it does not have any blinking lights). It will fly practically over our heads through the center of the sky. It’s orbiting at about 205 miles altitude and moving at over 17,000 miles per hour. P.S. Even cooler: I just noticed the Space Shuttle will appear in the sky about a minute behind the ISS.”
