Ski Report: Winter storm blowing in

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the Lake Tahoe area for the 24-hour period starting at 10pm Tuesday.

Expect about a half foot at the lake and a foot or more above 7,000 feet. The wind will be picking up, too.

Surface conditions are variable, but primarily machine groomed snow and skier-rider firm packed snow with packed powder on upper elevations.

Ski report: More terrain opening

More lifts and terrain are opening today — including Alpine Meadow.

Heavenly opens upper California side with Sky Express and Canyon Express. (No access from California base.)

Sierra-at-Tahoe opens the back side today.

Kirkwood will open the entire mountain on Saturday — the first Tahoe area resort to have all its lifts running. Mammoth opens its entire mountain today.

Northstar opens Zephyr Express today.

Ski report: Have a good outer layer

A winter weather advisory for elevations above 6,500 feet is in effect until 10am. Snow level will be rising to 8,000 feet. Three to 8 inches is predicted about 7,000 feet.

Mixed precipitation reported at most resorts.
